On your face? Noooo… Enough of that has been sprouting on the smig since teendom. In fact, I’ve always been reluctant to try hair supplements for that very reason… However, since a bald spot has been cultivated across the crown since the birth of the firstborn, I’ve obviously reconsidered.
There you are, four months into being a mother, and whatever lustrious locks you’ve grown throughout your pregnancy starts falling out in fistfuls. It’ll grow back, surely. Of course, it’ll grow back! It didn’t grow back. Not in my case, anyway. And then the omnipotent people at Sparkle PR sent over a month’s supply of Hairburst capsules and I thought, it must be a sign!!
Ideally, I’d have a before and after picture of the pink bald spot making the parting spread like the Red Sea, but there’s the embarrassment. Instead, here’s a picture of someone else with shinier longer hair in the space of two months.
Here comes the promotional patter…
What’s in them exactly? Namely Collagen, Silica, Hyaluronic Acid, Biotin, Selenium, Zinc, Vitamins A, C, D, various B’s, and Amino Acids.
How do they work? Hairburst is scientifically formulated and designed to combat the negative impact of poor nutrition, hair products, age and genetics. The capsules contain a unique formula and rammed with essential nutrients – such as Biotin, Selenium and Zinc – to contribute to the maintenance of normal hair.
How long do they take to work? You should start seeing an improvement in the strength, shine, length and manageability (for realz) of your gruaig in one to two months.
Where can they be purchased? Boots.ie for between €25 and €29. In fact, they’re currently on offer…
And the main questions…?
Do they actually work? They certainly made a difference to the thickness of my hair around the crown area. There’s a spotlight in our bathroom that shines directly down on your head over the sink and, usually, I’d hold the scrap of hair aloft, looking at the light bouncing off my bonce, feeling fierce good about myself. I don’t find myself doing that as much since using them. Read into that what you may.
Do they make your face/body hairier? Thankfully, no.
Would I buy them again? Certainly would, if I had the money.
• Thicker hair.
• You’re doing something FOR YOURSELF.
• Given the price of nappies, formula, and impulse purchases to keep the peace are fairly lofty, the maintenance of mummy’s bald spot is, unfortunately, lower down the list essentials.
• The capsules are only maaahoooosive and therefore a bit tricky to swallow. If/when I buy them again, it’ll be these little beauties.
At least this way I’ll have my own gummy vitamins to horse into!
